Principle Two: Diverse and accessible curriculum content

Principle Two:

Diverse and accessible curriculum content

Ensuring that curriculum content is inclusive and that students see themselves reflected in it, diversifying the range of content and perspectives included.

Principle Two is focussed on the ‘what’ of curriculum development, the subject knowledge and perspectives that are taught. The content of our curricula needs to reflect the diversity of our student cohort in a way that allows them to feel included and valued, enhancing their engagement, belonging and success.

This may entail diversifying the range of topics and perspectives taught, the use of examples or applications of the learning, or reviewing reading lists and other resources to ensure it is representative.

A more diverse curriculum will also ensure that our graduates are best equipped to live and work in a globalised world.

Principle Two encourages practitioners to work with their department and
colleagues across the institution to:

  • Identify and challenge assumptions
  • Diversify reading lists and critique canon
  • Diversify curriculum conten
  • Consider digital accessibility of curriculum.
